Engagement

Denver Business JournalReader engagement at the Denver Business Journal is primarily led by events, whether they are held in person or virtually. I have served as the emcee of DBJ's "Meet the Newsroom" event in 2019, Mentoring Monday 2020 and Mentoring Monday 2021, which was our largest interactive virtual event during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Denver Post
Beyond managing The Denver Post's largest social accounts, my projects at included Facebook Live coverage and reader quizzes.
Facebook Live

Before the full scale of the 2017 Women's March was known, I worked with our video team to prepare and set up a livestream of the march. The Facebook Live was viewed nearly 7 million times and was shared 49,000 times.
The following year's livestream also experienced success, but on a smaller scale, netting 71,000 views and more than 870 shares.

Quizzes

Working with an outside development team, The Denver Post created a brand-new quiz tool. I was one of the first to use it, creating an engaging quiz for all ages titled "How much do you know about the Denver Zoo's baby animals?" Working with a reporter to gather facts about a wide range of animals, I was able to put together a fun quiz to be used for future zoo coverage.
Craftsy
From running contests to featuring pattern designer stories, I was highly involved with improving engagement on Craftsy's blog.
Here are some examples of notable projects:

Reader Contests

At Craftsy, I developed monthly contest themes that frequently saw more than 100 entries from members. At times, more than 2,000 readers often voted to determine winners. Examples include a contest launch post, a reader poll and a feature post on a contest winner.
Category-Specific Quizzes

With the expertise of a skilled freelancer, I led the development of a weekly quilting quiz. See an example here.
Pattern Designer Features

To help engage blog readers who might not be familiar with the site's other areas of interest, I developed a way to feature designers from Craftsy's online pattern store. See an example of a feature here.
PennLive.com
If you had any interaction with PennLive.com during my time there, it's pretty likely you'd encounter me. From closely monitoring comments, user submissions and emails, I worked to improve everyone's experience with our website.

Photo Contests

During my time at PennLive.com, submissions to our photo contests had hundreds of entries and polls for our finalists drew up to 1,000 votes.
Reader Comment Promotion

Readers have a lot to say and appreciate knowing that we pay attention to their ideas and reflections. To encourage constructive conversations, I selected a few comments each week to be featured on our website. This promotion has resulted in replies in the hundreds for hot topics and often moved a potentially controversial conversation along in a proactive way.
